Donald MacIntosh

In the author's own words: 'This is not a book about the art of angling. Nor is it a book of the ‘Me and Joe’ genre. I am not an angler of sufficient competence to be able to write with authority about the former, nor do I have any inclination to attempt the latter sort of book. This is a book about the fun I had with people in remote lands, people who would have been quite unable to tell the difference between a Greenwell’s Glory and a Welshman’s Button, but whose lives often depended on their ability to remove fish from the most unyielding of waters by fair means or foul. Usually foul.' Illustrated by John Richardson.

'For thirty years Donald wandered around Guinea, usually known as the ‘White Man’s Grave’, as a tree prospector, botanist and surveyor, fishing where he could and collecting tales of characters like Magic Sperm and the Monkey Woman. I sometimes wonder how he managed to triumph over the appalling conditions he often found himself in, but having a sense of humour helped and this shines out in his stories.' - Andrew Herd, Waterlog

'One of the funniest angling books ever written.' - Halieus
