Andrew Herd
Angling historian, researcher and writer, Dr Andrew Herd, was born on 7th December, 1959. Andrew qualified as a doctor of medicine at the Middlesex hospital, London, in 1982. His previous jobs include research into plastic surgery at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. Eventually, he became a GP and now works four days a week as a doctor and moonlights as associate editor for Waterlog.
Andrew has written extensively on the history of fly fishing and his book, The Fly, was the result of a decade’s research. It is arguably the most authoritative work ever published on the subject. His website - www.flyfishinghistory.com - is one of the most visited angling websites. He has a unique writing style that blends facts with fresh and colourful comments on the valuable and sometimes bizarre background material that has somehow eluded other authors. Andrew also wrote the transcript and history for the Medlar edition of the first angling book ever published, The Treatyse of Fishing with an Angle.
Andrew lives in County Durham and is married with one daughter, two labradors, a bay mare called Chloe and a goldfish. In his spare time he likes to go fishing, tie flies, collect fishing books, research fly fishing history and fly a Rallye Galopin from a grass airfield close to his home. He is is also secretary of the Brancepeth Allotment Association.
Medlar titles by Andrew Herd include:
The Fly 2003
The Treatise of Fishing with an Angle
Spotty Herberts 2004
Silver Tourist 2004
