To the Peacock at Rowsley Bridge, collect the day ticket, pause to drink a coffee with some of the chef ’s home-made biscuits. Meet and greet any acquaintances and friends there in similar mode. Read through the latest entries in the fishing logbook. Derive pleasure from some of the more enthusiastic comments. It is good to see that folk have been enjoying themselves, some of them quite a lot! In the fishing book of one of the syndicates to which I am lucky enough to belong, one of the rods, Cliff Plumb, now angling with St Peter and the rest of the fishers of men, used to keep his entries somewhat on the minimalist side. Some of us would write copious notes about all sorts of things (still do). Cliff would simply put ‘A Grand Day’ in the comments column. It said enough, nay, it said more than plenty. Hmm, now
where to start?
