Issue 56 - Life and Times of the Roach Enthusiast

The roach is, with the exception of the stickleback, the most widely distributed of freshwater fish in the British Isles. It is fished for in grubby farm ponds, powerful rivers, canals, reservoirs and gravel pits, drains and streams. It is the mainstay for seasoned angler and raw beginner alike, and remains the most widely-requested of species for restocking.Yet there is nothing commonplace about the roach, though we may often take it for granted. Also, much has changed over the years in the way we understand and fish for the humble roach.
