Another pal of mine used to fish with him, but then Don got money and that changed everything, all of a sudden he became upwardly mobile, if that’s the right way of putting it and he tried bigging up boat fishing for a while, but it didn’t impress people in the pub, mainly because half of them wouldn’t have known a pollack if Kevin had shoved it up their nose. I suppose it must have been a bit like being the sort of person who gets off on having a better car than anyone else and who goes out and buys something so fancy that there isn’t a soul who knows what it is and ends up condemned to spend his days telling other people . . .
