South African lakes are called dams, something which confused me slightly on my first acquaintance with them. Donaldson, Florida, Klaserie, Tzaneen and other dams are legendary among the more adventurous of the world’s carp anglers and are certainly thrilling places to fish. Hippos, rhinos or hyenas add to the excitement, which makes having an experienced guide essential.
