Issue 64 - The infamous Forcing Reel
Above the gate to my vicarage there is a signboard upon which the following legend is inscribed in gold: ‘Heaven = Cane + Cake + Barbel + Beer’.
It was sold to me many years ago by a wandering colporteur [an itinerant bible-hawker] as perhaps being of some guidance to the fixedly secular angler. The eager fellow had knocked on my door one April morning whilst a thin, cold rain was falling and had sked only a shilling for his pretty plaque. Seeing it as not entirely inappropriate tinsel for the luring of said waverers, I purchased it.
